The Corpus Index

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What the index measures, what it cannot claim, who pays for what, and how to get something corrected.

What does The Corpus Index actually measure?

It measures the share of an independent source corpus that names each vendor. We take the buying questions real buyers ask, collect the independent pages the web returns for them, download those pages and count who is named, with weighting rules that stop any one publisher dominating. It is a measurement of the reading material AI assistants draw on, not a screenshot of one chatbot conversation.

Why measure sources instead of asking ChatGPT directly?

Because a single answer is unstable: ask the same question twice and you get two different lists. The corpus underneath moves far more slowly and can be checked by anyone. Measured on a vertical segment, the vendors absent from AI answers were exactly the vendors with low source share, so the corpus predicts the answers while also being verifiable.

Can a vendor pay to rank higher, or to be removed?

No. There is no paid placement, no sponsored slot and no removal fee. Buying a paid audit changes nothing in the public index, and vendors do not see an edition before publication.

My vendor page shows a low number. Does that mean our software is bad?

No, and the site never says so. A low share means the measured sources rarely name you. That is a distribution and publishing problem, not a product verdict: several vendors with strong products hold small shares because nobody independent writes about them.

How often is the index updated?

Monthly, rebuilt from the same question set with the same corpus depth so editions are comparable. Corpus depth matters: with a shallower corpus the ranking changes, which is why the depth is held fixed between editions.

Something on my page is wrong. How do I get it fixed?

Write to hello@thecorpusindex.com and point at the page. Corrections are free, checked against the corpus, and applied to the next edition. You may also send a short statement of reply, which we publish alongside your page.

Which vendors are included?

The tracked set covers the field service management segment. Vendors that appear in no source at all still get a page, because that absence is itself the finding, and it is the one worth acting on.

Do you use AI to write these pages?

The numbers are arithmetic: pages are downloaded and counted by code, with no language model deciding any figure. The explanatory text is written and checked by a person.

What is in the paid audit that is not on the free page?

The public page shows the gap. The audit shows the route: every source behind the numbers, the buying questions ranked by revenue intent, the specific pages your competitors are on and you are not, and an ordered plan of which source to enter first and what it moves.

Do you track visitors?

No. No analytics, no advertising pixels, no cookies. The only thing stored in your browser is your light or dark preference, and it never leaves your device.
